Future Politician???
I thought it fitting for today to share some conversations Clark and I have had. It is no secret for those who know us at all that there are NO Obama supporters in our house. Could it be the 2 McCain/Palin yard signs we had or the bumper stickers? :o) Well, during the election, we had a couple of conversations in the car on the way home from school when the kids would see a yard sign that would say 'Texans for Obama', etc. The kids were inquisitive as to why we wanted McCain to win instead of Obama, etc. I shared just a couple of things with them, not going into great detail and not making a big deal out of it (or so I thought). Well, I was in Clark's Kindergarten classroom one afternoon and the class left to go out to recess and I stayed behind to work on something. One of the Teachers came in and asked me if Clark had told me about lunch yesterday? He hadn't, so of course I was curious and concerned. She assured me that nothing was wrong, he wasn't in trouble, and then proceeded to tell me of a conversation that had transpired at the lunch table the day before. Apparently Clark was asking the boys from his class who they (or their families) were voting for and was appalled when one of his classmates said Obama! Clark wanted to know WHY he would want to vote for him? I'm sure there was more discussion that I can't remember now, but he (Clark) then called a Teacher over. He proceeds to tell her, Mrs. McGee, we have a PROBLEM! A big problem! So and so is for OBAMA and he's bad! He (Obama) thinks it's okay to kill babies in their Mom's tummy, etc... Now the other little boy is almost in tears at this point as he thinks he has done or said something very wrong! Mrs. McGee then went on to explain to Clark that one of the great things about living in America is that we have the freedom to choose and that it isn't always a great idea to talk about things like voting with our friends. He, listening so well, stops another Teacher walking by and fills her in on the latest 'lunch table discovery.' Someone said maybe he'd grow up to be a politician with his boldness, I'm praying for a Soul-winner! That would truly make his Mommy and Daddy proud! They had a mock-election in their classroom and when McCain won, Clark was quite excited! One little girl cried that Obama didn't win as she voted for him because he had a 'B' in his name just like her... oh the innocence! Just a week or so ago, Clark asked me now that 'Rock Bama' was President, will the American flag still be our flag??? WOW--- loaded question. So, we talked about that he wasn't our President yet, that President Bush still was until next Tuesday (today), but that yes, the American flag would still be our flag! Wonder where he came up with that?
